Marketing for Acupuncture Clinics: Trust, Local Visibility and Booking

By Pranesh Rohilla - Founder & Director, MyClaimReady Marketing

Help prospective patients understand who provides care, what a first visit involves, what it costs and how to book. This guide focuses on Ontario practices whose acupuncture advertising falls under CTCMPAO.

Start with practitioner identity

Present each practitioner's registered name, permitted designation, registration and relevant training. Link to the public register so visitors can check the information. Do not imply a College-recognized specialty where none exists.

A practitioner photo and a short explanation of their approach can help visitors understand who they would meet. Use descriptions that the practitioner can substantiate.

Explain your services clearly

Explain what a first appointment involves, its duration and fee, and how the practitioner assesses whether further visits are appropriate. Do not present a fixed treatment course as suitable for every patient.

Use plain language. A popular search term does not establish that a treatment claim is appropriate. Have the treating practitioner check clinical statements against evidence and the applicable advertising standard before publication. CTCMPAO requires supportable claims and prohibits guarantees; its standard specifically cautions against promising improved chances of conception. Accurate descriptions of the appointment process can be useful without making an outcome claim.

The same standard prohibits patient testimonials, including anonymized examples, and requires reasonable efforts to remove third-party testimonials the member becomes aware of. Do not add a routine review-request campaign or patient before-and-after gallery to this marketing plan.

Local visibility: Google Business Profile and directories

Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a prospective patient sees. Complete it fully: correct address, hours, phone number, services, practitioner names, and photos of the actual clinic space. Select categories that accurately describe your practice.

Professional association directories (such as those maintained by acupuncture professional associations in Ontario) can provide additional visibility and credibility. Verify each directory's listing requirements and ensure your information is consistent across all listings.

If your clinic is not appearing in local search results, see why your clinic may not appear on Google for troubleshooting steps.

Insurance and billing information

Some benefit plans may reimburse acupuncture. Eligibility depends on the plan, service and practitioner designation; registration alone does not establish coverage.

On your website and Google Business Profile, explain which insurers you have billing arrangements with, whether you offer direct billing, and what patients should verify with their own plan before booking. Coverage amounts, eligible practitioners and annual limits vary by plan. See our direct billing guide for how to present this information clearly.

Before planning appointments around benefits, patients should check their plan's renewal date, remaining coverage and eligibility requirements. Renewal dates and coverage rules vary by plan.

Making booking easy

Prospective acupuncture patients who are ready to try the service need a clear path to booking. Offer online booking if possible, display your phone number prominently, and explain what happens when they arrive for their first appointment.

If your practice offers an introductory conversation, explain its purpose, any fee, and that it is not a confirmed treatment appointment. Use “Request a call” when that is the action the visitor will take.
